Proposal for London Underground Construction now includes Bank Station

November 23, 2011 Current Affairs No Comments

Bank Station is one of the most complex and busiest interchanges of the Tube network system, and the recent proposal for London Underground construction in this section of the tube is aimed at relieving some of the congestion. Recently the City of London released a statement requesting construction firms who believe that they are capable of taking on this project to submit proposals.

The project is not a small one; in fact the estimated cost of the development and construction of the London Underground station is between £250 and £500 million. Once a firm has been chosen they will come on board in the summer of 2013 (a year after the 2012 Olympics), and construction will begin in 2015 and be completed in 2021. London workwear suppliers such as Dickies will need to get in plenty of stock to keep up with the post-Olympics and pre-Underground construction work.

Fourth Tube Strike Hits London

December 1, 2010 Current Affairs No Comments

London Underground staff say there will be no tube strike over the Christmas period, but warn that strike action could escalate next year. At 6:30 pm on Monday, the latest 24-hour tube strike over job cuts came to an end – but not before millions of London commuters had faced freezing conditions as they tried to get to work without rail transport.

This latest tube strike is the fourth since September 2010, and any estate agent London will confirm that the walkout disrupted all the city’s lines – although London Underground heads claim they were able to run 40% of their normal services.

London’s Mayor Boris Johnson was recently asked if he still believes that the London Underground offers a safe service. This query was delivered on the same day that the Northern Line, one of the London underground zones, was out of service due to a broken-down train.

London Underground Working Towards Mobile Phone Signal

September 22, 2010 Current Affairs No Comments

If you ask anyone what they find most annoying about the London Underground, we doubt that the majority of then will say that it is the limited space or ticket fares, but rather the lack of mobile phone reception on the tube. An estate agent Bayswater cannot call clients, a mother cannot call her babysitter – is it impossible to make any calls on the London Underground and as we all know, this can be highly annoying. London Mayor Boris Johnson is hoping to change this matter that frustrates million of commuters on a daily basis.
