Air Malta is enjoying success and has recorded quite a considerable operating profit. A profit of €0.4 million has been recorded in the first half of the year ending on the 30th of September 2012. The island that is known for its favourable income tax in Malta and its businesses, are operating relatively well even in the crisis Europe is faced with, and this is evident in Air Malta’s performance.

Success for the airline

The operating of Air Malta is reflective of an improvement of a significant €8.4 million over the same period last year, as the airline recorded a €8 million loss. Malta Air, one of the most prominent carriers for people enjoying holidays on the island and all parties involved are very content with the improvement, as this is the first time in four years that the airline has registered an operating profit. The two major elements that facilitated the growth were both cargo and passenger revenues. Both cargo and passenger revenues contributed to an increase of €2 million. Chief Executive of Air Malta, Peter Davies stated, “These figures are the result of the efforts we have put into the restructuring of Air Malta. The concerted effort has reversed the trend of the last years and finally we are reaping financial gains.“

While London Gatwick is involved with the Air Malta prices, Heathrow seems to be omitted. However the prices are based on one-way fares, including taxes and charges so the exclusion of some key airports isn’t exactly a train smash.

Air Malta Restructuring Aims for Company Profits by 2014

January 23, 2012 Travel and tourism No Comments

The restructuring of Air Malta is estimated to cost Maltese taxpayers over €200 million over a period of four years. The restructuring plan initiated by the Maltese government aims to increase the share capital of Air Malta and purchase most of the property owned by the company. Approval by the European Commission for the Air Malta restructuring plan must still be given, which includes a €78 million payment to increase the company’s share capital and the conversion of a €52 million emergency loan transferred into the share capital last year.

The second tier of the plan is the €66 million government purchase of the property owned by Air Malta, excluding the area surrounding the old terminal building. This area will eventually be used for the construction of a new office block for Air Malta. A promise of sale agreement was already made last month with a deposit of €20 million already transferred to the Malta company. A massive €30 million in financial support over the next three years from the bank has also already been secured. Approval for the plan is expected to be delivered in June after the Commission’s investigative team has visited Malta and the proposal has been fully evaluated.
