New Children’s Charity Launches in Malta
Celebrities for Kids (CfK) is the latest childrens charity to have launched in Malta. It is a voluntary non-governmental organisation that champions children’s rights and related issues. The launch was held in Mosta and was attended by numerous celebrities and media and sporting personalities.
The new charity for children was opened by Jackie Merceica who discussed the idea behind the charity. She then introduced the main speaker, Paediatric Surgeon Chris Fearne, who gave an overview of what children’s rights are and why promoting them is so important. Malta lawyers ratified the UN Convention for the Rights of Children way back in 1990, which led to the launch of a Child Protection Unit in 1993 for children in need of charity.
Fearne stressed that civil society also has a role to play in helping children in need and the establishment of charities is one way of doing this. This is where CfK comes in. Child abuse is an unfortunate reality in Malta, as in the rest of the world, which is why charities for abused children are so important. Fearne believes that it is important to do more research into child abuse so that we have a better idea how to tackle the root of the problem rather than deal with the cases after they have occurred.
The charity will focus on issues such as special rights of disabled children, childhood obesity and children in the eyes of the law. The Malta company and organisation CfK already has plans underway for its first project. They will focus on Child Safety and Injury Prevention, which will also see local celebrities doing their part for the charity in conveying the message to save the children from harm to Malta’s citizens and the relevant authorities.
CfK will also act as a watchdog over children’s rights and they appeal to all to come forward and take action for this children’s charity. Fearne also put out the request that everyone do their part for this childrens charity.

Birthdays are special days in children’s lives, and a group of bakers working in collaboration are working hard to deliver charity birthday cakes to the poor so that no birthday is left without a smile.
Some 40 years ago husband and wife team Ann and Ivor Hutchinson-Guest set up a children’s charity that expose children to the notation of dance and how it can be used to convey everyday moments. Together the couple has seen it grow and expand beyond the walls of their UK home and as they pass the charity on to a younger generation, they’re unwavering support of the children’s charity will not end.
