Mr Price Offers New Online Shopping Experience to Customers

May 29, 2012 Current Affairs No Comments

Mr Price has announced plans to take their clothing catalogue online in a bid to grow their market share. Slightly behind modern times, South Africa’s e-commerce platforms are viewed as small-fry comparative to global standards. Compared to five years ago however, the use of the company-based PABX system and net-based retail sales are definitely on the rise- indicating that South African’s are slowly changing their normal behaviours.

Tech-savvy SA consumers are showing a growing inclination to set aside their traditional shopping habits in order to conserve their limited free time. As locals increasingly turn to net technology for their monthly dose of retail therapy and bargain hunting, big local clothing brands like Mr Price are gearing up to join online players manoeuvring the propensity-driven profit in their direction.

Arthur Goldstuck, the MD of World Wide Worx, recently commented on the partiality that users who frequent the net develop for online shopping. Goldstuck predicted that from 2013, the participation of internet consumers will increase dramatically, leading to “growth in the number of online shoppers and online shopping options.” His views are in line with a recent survey conducted by MasterCard, which showed that SA’s 2009 online shopping index had increased from 44% to 53% in 2010. Mr Price’s two-tier response to changing customer behaviour is ‘internationalisation’ and e-commerce backed by hosted exchange.

With the future of the ‘fashion right’ retail chain linked to the fundamental change in the market, Mr Price account holders will make or break the leading brand’s innovative thinking.  Taking their clothing catalogue online, South Africans will be able to purchase Mr Price’s winter clothes from the comfort of their homes. And with one billion African consumers ripe for the picking, online shopping could be the fashion company’s next hot ticket.

There are people out there who are still sceptical of making transactions on the Internet and for this reason it might come as quite a surprise that 75% of grocery shopping is done on the web in Britain. It’s no longer frozen food delivery vehicles like Igloo lining the streets, but retailers themselves are being spotted all over the place.

Survey Specifics

This latest research was conducted by Nielsen and the results have been attributed to rising food prices and convenience shopping. The global survey was centred around Digital Influence on Global Shopping and used over 28,000 consumers across 56 countries.

Shopping Stats

Just under 50% of these patrons were looking for deals, while 30% were after coupons from dedicated websites and 25% were shopping around for food price comparisons. The UK are ahead of European countries in their consumers’ penchant for seeking the cheapest shopping channels, with 43% of Europeans employing this tool in order to save money.

Health at Home

The Olympics brought with it a sense of fitness, health and well-being and customers shopping for food online are still as driven by vouchers and coupon-based purchasing as they are on seeking healthy items. Online food shopping may also just mean that refrigerated vans could be dropping produce right into supermarket delivery vehicles ensuring only the freshest of groceries are distributed.
