Proposal for London Underground Construction now includes Bank Station

November 23, 2011

Bank Station is one of the most complex and busiest interchanges of the Tube network system, and the recent proposal for London Underground construction in this section of the tube is aimed at relieving some of the congestion. Recently the City of London released a statement requesting construction firms who believe that they are capable of taking on this project to submit proposals.

The project is not a small one; in fact the estimated cost of the development and construction of the London Underground station is between £250 and £500 million. Once a firm has been chosen they will come on board in the summer of 2013 (a year after the 2012 Olympics), and construction will begin in 2015 and be completed in 2021. London workwear suppliers such as Dickies will need to get in plenty of stock to keep up with the post-Olympics and pre-Underground construction work.

The present proposal for the redevelopment of Bank Station will see a new ticket office being built at the surface level. From here an additional four high capacity lifts and lift shafts will require construction, as well as more staircases and a secondary escape route from the London underground system. In addition to this the company will need to expand the platform to make it more spacious to accommodate the many commuters who pass through here.

More tunnelling is also planned as part of the construction of the London underground, with plans for a new southbound platform, as well as to divert the southbound Northern line running tunnel. There are also plans for a new entrance on King William Street, which will further help relieve congestion and improve foot traffic flow through the station.

Already there are workers in safety trainers who have commenced construction on the Walbrook entrance to Bank Station, from the Waterloo and City lines, as part of the proposed London underground construction.

Palace Rooms for Rent during London Olympics 2012

November 22, 2011

If you are still looking for accommodation in London during next year’s Olympic Games then you may be one of the lucky few who can take advantage of the palace rooms for rent during this period. Queen Elizabeth II recently agreed to rent out some of the rooms at St James’ Palace rooms, known as ‘state apartments’ amongst royal circles, as party venues. However, it is not just anyone who is entitled to rent these palace rooms; only holders of royal warrants, companies with long standing ties to the royal family, will be allowed to take advantage of this incredible opportunity/

The palace rooms available for rent are assumed to be the Throne Room, the Tapestry Room and the Queen Anne Room, among others. While Buckingham Palace has been the official residence of Her Royal Majesties since the time of Queen Victoria, St James’ Palace has been the home of several royal family members including Princes William and Harry.

While there is much to be said about luxury property for rent in Bayswater and surrounds for parties and living in; St James’ Palace is not open to the public but has been used to host certain official functions. By renting out one of the palace rooms your party will be hosted at one of the most exclusive addresses in the world! For such an experience you can expect an equally spectacular price tag. The cost of renting one of the Palace rooms during the London Olympics is £30 000 ($47 500) per day.

For those people who aren’t a sponsor or don’t have a warrant yet still want the opportunity to sleep like royalty during the 2012 Olympics, about an hour outside London is Leeds Castle where people may enquire about renting palace rooms.

Alternatively if you are considering escaping the chaos that is sure to be London during the Olympics, you may want to consider luxury property for sale in Antibes where you can live like royalty on the French Riviera without the price tag of London’s palace rooms for rent.

London Olympics Velodrome Wins Building Awards

October 14, 2011

The incredible stadia and other developments that have been constructed in London for the 2012 Olympics are nothing short of incredible, so much so that they are winning building awards for their design. The Olympics Velodrome building in London was recently given an award for its sleek design.

Building work on the Velodrome began in March 2009 and construction workers in mens work overalls were busy with the development until February this year, which made it the first of the new buildings for the London Olympics to be finished. This 6000 seater building beat 26 other buildings to win the award. The Building Awards are held in recognition of the best designs for new buildings, places and spaces that are constructed in order to uplift and better public service.

The Velodrome is the venue set to host the Olympic and Paralympics track cycling events and after the Olympics it will be used by athletes and to host sporting events. It will also offer a cafe and cycle workshop, as well as rent out bicycles. As well as this building award, the Velodrome has also been shortlisted for the RIBA Stirling Prize which is awarded to the best British design by European architects.

The Velodrome has been nicknamed “The Pringle” due to its sweeping roof that reflects the curve of the cycling track inside. The buildings that are considered for the awards are assessed on a number of factors including how innovative the architecture and engineering are, the sustainability of the construction process and delivery, and the satisfaction of the client.

The Velodrome was built by ISG with Hopkins Architects, Expedition Engineering and BDSP as part of the design team, and then a host of construction workers in durable waterproof work boots. But the hard work has paid off and the Velodrome now enjoys the accomplishment of being awarded one of these prestigious building awards.

Construction of Olympic Venues near Completion

February 23, 2011

As 2012 draws closer so construction on the new Olympic venues has had to speed up. New photos have been published that show the progression of the developments, with many showing the stadia to be close to complete.

Construction workers donned their safety footwear and got cracking to ensure that the stadium was finished on time and within budget. The Velodrome, one of the 2012 Olympic venues, is now ready to be handed to the organising committee behind the event, so that they can run a series of test events to test out the stadium. The Velodrome cost £90 million to construct and seats 6000 people.

Sir Chris Hoy, one of the advisors in the construction planning and four-time champion, wanted two things from this Olympic venue: for it to have world-record breaking potential and plenty of easy to access lavatory facilities. The track was designed by Ron Webb, the Australian designer behind the Olympic park venues in Athens and Sydney, and has been specially constructed to allow the maximum speed to be taken out of the corners, thus allowing for record breaking times.

The velodrome has been constructed with the exterior consisting of red cedar wood tiles and the interior made of Siberian pine wood. It has also been especially designed to ensure that the building is sustainable.

Conservative Mayor Boris Johnson has declared this London Olympic venue a “triumph” and congratulates all those who donned their men’s and ladies safety footwear and got stuck into the construction. He believes that the velodrome will be the venue of choice for events for many years after the games have passed.

This is one of the nine venues constructed for the 2012 London Olympics and the only one that has been structurally completed so far. With just 521 days until the opening ceremony, workers had better finish construction of the Olympic venues fast.

Office space rentals to increase due to Mayor’s plans

January 21, 2011

While Knightsbridge offices are already renowned for their prestigious location, it seems that these real estate gems are soon to be even more desirable. Knightsbridge office space is likely to receive even more interest as London Mayor, Boris Johnson, reveals plans for a single promotional agency for London.

The Mayor hopes that by creating a united agency it will encourage tourism and international students to attend universities and colleges in the area, as well as encourage investment. This is likely to increase the value of commercial office space in the area, especially that of serviced offices Knightsbridge.

For those businesses who are looking to move to office space in central London are probably already aware of the many benefits of being based here, which include the prestigious address. In fact, Knightsbridge offices may also become even more attractive to overseas investors looking for office space in the city.

Existing promotional agencies Think London, Visit London and Study London will be combined to form one promotional agency from a shared office space. The agency will be known as Promote London and is to open on the 1st of April, when funding for the other three agencies comes to end. Promote London will cost around £14 million per year.

One of the reasons for the merger is that it is thought that a single promotions agency will be more cost effective, as well as enable the agencies to work more closely with government in terms of promoting London to the world. The Mayor plans to have the agency promote the 2012 Olympic Games and then judge how well having just one agency works in terms of promoting London.

The location of this agency means that the price of office space rentals in the surrounding areas are likely to increase as overseas interest is garnered. If you are looking for serviced offices to rent you may want to consider doing so now before these developments come into play and the price of office space escalates.
