New Internet Suffixes Such As .love Will Revolutionise The Internet
When people thought the Internet couldn’t further evolve and innovate, a new branding concept has sprouted in the form of personalised Internet suffixes. An Internet suffix in its original form is the .com or variants of that after a URL. Big businesses such as business internet specialists and brands are bidding for their tailored suffixes; L’Oreal wants .beauty, Google wants .love and Amazon wanting .joy.
Hundreds of the biggest names in branding are putting proposals forward for their unique Internet suffixes which include hoards of generic terms such as .cruise, .holiday and .children all depending on the demeanour and offering of a particular brand. Amazon not only wants to associate ‘.joy’ with their offering but also .author to cement them as the premier online bookselling specialist. Goggle, in all its grandeur and marketing prowess, looks to assign .love as their Internet suffix in a bid to collect registration fees from its rivals. A creative use of the innovative internet suffixes has been proposed by the wine company Gallo Vineyards with the suffix .barefoot. The Internet suffixes innovation is an integral part of the Internet address expansion movement from its creation in the 1980’s. This new introduction may prove an inconvenience for some companies but opportunistic for many others. The compilation of Internet suffixes proposed by brands, will go through a review process which may take months or even years to process. It has been estimated that up to 1,000 Internet suffixes could be added each year.
There are two domineering aspects of the new Internet suffix movement, one being the names letting Internet-connected computers know where to send emails and locate websites and the branding aspect of the suffix further instilling the brands ethos and identify. The new introduction of Internet suffixes is bound to change the Internet significantly with many positive outcomes stemming from this innovative tool. New businesses utilising a PABX system, new marketing tools, new job opportunities and new ways to connect communities and share information are seen on the horizon with Internet suffixes.
