Hurry Up and Wait for Faster ADSL
Good news for anyone, which is most people in South Africa, who have ADSL lines with Telkom may be looking at a faster connection after the latest Telkom revelation is that they plan on boosting ADSL speed. There are some concerns but that would be completely natural because people eager to have their ADSL boosted means that there may be congestion of the system.
This news is still in the planning phase and dates have not yet been confirmed for it to be implemented but the bottom line is that Telkom plans on boosting ADSL dispatch by increasing the speed of their 384Kbps ADSL subscribers to 1Mbps and several weeks later boost their 1Mbps ADSL subscribers to 2Mbps. This will certainly make any ADSL connection zippy and anyone using PABX systems will see a huge increase in speed.
Everyone will have to wait and see if Telkom actually makes the move to this highly anticipated speed increase because everyone knows how difficult life can be when the acceleration of things to do in your life depend entirely on the speed of the ADSL connection. Application monitoring combined with speedy ADSL and life just takes on a whole new meaning. In the meantime we will just have to sit and wait with baited breathe for life to move faster than it already is.
