Energy Saving Tips

May 2, 2012 Lifestyle No Comments

With the escalation of prices across the board it stands to reason that any tips are most welcome particularly in the electricity and petrol sector. Energy saving tips are becoming more and more important in the greater scheme of things because many of us find we are struggling to find that extra bit of cash towards the middle of the month just to buy a bit more electricity or to put petrol in the car so we can get the kids to school.

It is hugely important to take the tips on board and make a point of saving energy at home, at work and in your car. Not only to make our pockets breathe a sigh of relief, but also because it is good for Mother Nature. Here are a few energy saving tips that all electrician Cape Town to Timbuktu will tell you; it actually does make a difference:

  • Turn your geyser down to 55°. For anyone who enjoys scalding showers, this will not take your self-inflicted pain away. It just means that, in the event you like cold water with your hot water, you will not have to use as much cold and energy if your geyser was turned up to 65°.
  • Do not leave your computer or any other appliances on standby. Standby uses more energy than one would imagine and letting your computer hibernate is silly if you are not going to use it for the night.
  • Close your windows when using a heater. Electricity saving tips often advise you not to use a heater but if you prefer to avoid hypothermia, like most of us, then keep the warmth in and think of the energy saving before opening a window. One has to wonder why someone would want a window open during winter, while they have the heater on. It seems most pointless.
  • Use energy saving light bulbs.
  • Switch off lights at night. Many children like night lights but for your energy saving to actually count it is best to use energy saving bulbs too.
  • Use your stove top correctly. Put small pots on small cooking plates, and large pots on large cooking plates. Small pots on large cooking plates can use up to 50% more energy than usual.

So, if you are looking to save money with energy saving tips but are not sure how consider the above points and for further clarification call an electrician Durban or in your city to ask for good advise.
