Underground Pop and Rock Does Deafness Charity
The Quietus, a new rock music and pop culture website and some of their favourite groups in the UK noise underground, are coming together for a good cause and are giving back to a deafness charity. It seems they have incurred some active listening training as they have come to rescue of many people needing assistance with deafness. Different artist from the London music scene have compiled 14 tracks for an album.
The deafness charity album was conceptualised and put together by Steve Lee of the Wrongpop promotions organisation who will be donating 100% of the profits from the £5 cover price of the album to a deafness charity. You can listen to the album via a Bandcamp player featured at http://thequietus.com/articles/08368-wrongpop-charity-album and it will be available to buy until March 31st.
Steve explains that seven of the tracks on the deafness charity album are exclusive to it. Ice Sea Dead People, Camp Stag, That Tank, Lords, Part Chimp, Joeyfat & Hills Have Riffs have provided tracks for the deafness charity album that you can’t get anywhere else and all the bands and labels involved have gladly given their permission for their music to be on this great compilation seeing it as a great and worthy cause.
This is truly a great initiative and we asked Steve how and why he has gotten involved with a charity such as deafness research within the United Kingdom. Steve replied, ‘I’ve previously raised money for Deafness Research UK, when I heard a friend of mine was trying to get some money together for his newborn nephew to get a cochlea implant,’ he explains. ‘I had a Wrongpop gig that was coming up, so after speaking to the venue and bands, all of the money from that gig went to help this kid get the operation. That’s how I got involved with this great charity, and I’ve put on a few more gigs like this since then.’
It amazing to see people coming together and helping with such a great charity; all the profits made will go to a deafness charity and will allow further research to be conducted such as listening therapy as well as technological innovations.
