Blind Fashion Designer Mason Ewing Aims To Tackle Tinseltown
The inspiring, blind fashion designer, Mason Ewing is now aiming to tackle tinseltown and create a teen comedy and a dramatic series for television. Although Mason Ewing is partly blind, only being able to see vague combinations of light and shadow, he does not lack vision in any manner. Many renowned fashion designers have created amazing items such as silk scarves and men’s designer clothes and Mason Ewing is right up there in the ranks.
Mason Ewing, a renowned blind fashion designer, who has created an incredible portfolio with sketches of clothing from such as extravagant gowns that have made Paris fashion standards, was blinded at 15 and has endured one of the toughest childhoods. Mason was born in Cameroon to an American father and Cameroonian mother and was brought up in France. This fashion designer’s mother was a seamstress and dressmaker and he remembers watching fashion shows and seeing glamorous top models like Naomi Campbell on the catwalk. This talented fashion designer followed in his mother’s footprints and his love and passion for fashion is evident in his incredible portfolio of work.
This amazing, blind fashion designer recruited artists to sketch exactly what he explained, including an intricate and stunning ‘Marie Antoinette’ gown; a flowing, fluttering dress decorated with swoops of golden brocaded fabric. Ewing discovered that his sense of touch was incredibly enhanced and he could distinguish in immense detail between different fabrics and textures of linen, silk, lace and cotton. His touch provided a visual of his designs and enabled him to ‘see’ his designs.
Ewing studied physical therapy in college before deciding in 2001 to pursue his childhood dream of becoming a fashion designer. This fashion designer has a diverse range of clothing from elaborate and elegant evening gowns to innovative Braille-lettered T- shirts. Many designers of womens designer clothing have acquired a high sense of respect for this fashion designer and his clothing.
Mason Ewing has created a somewhat ionic character called Baby Madison that adorns his T-shirt collection. The cartoon figure has dark skin, blue eyes and a head of blond hair that he says, “represents tolerance and love for everyone,”. The shirts’ raised Braille lettering informs the blind fashion designer of the garment’s colour and what Madison image is printed on it.
Ewing used the character to branch out into video animation with “The Adventures of Madison.” He has hopes to extend that into two TV series that feature live actors. Test scenes for the teen drama “Eryna Bella” have been shot in South Los Angeles’ Vermont Square neighbourhood where the fashion designer rents a house. He explains, “It’s about high school beauty queens competing for the attention of the campus alpha male.” He is also working on a teen comedy series called “Mickey Boom.”
Mason Ewing, a successful and incredibly talented fashion designer has beaten all odds to flourish in a visually focused career. He is a passionate and driven individual and he aims to triumph in another visual arts field.
