Air Malta Seeks to Rebrand Entirely

May 2, 2012 Travel and tourism No Comments

Air Malta is without a doubt the gateway to the paradise island and it’s about to get a facelift. An Air Malta check in may forever change if the airline’s approach of international rebranding consultancy, FutureBrand, is anything to go by. The restructuring and rebranding contract is set to cost a whopping €130 million although under the watchful eye of the European Commission. However the airline has not given official word about the contract’s length or overall value. The Malta holiday is about to get a fresh coat of paint, so that Air Malta ticket will lead you on a trip unlike you’ve ever had before; at least this will be what the advertising campaign is sure to drive home.

Asked whether any public call was made about an advertising campaign, Air Malta said public bookings of representation were still forthcoming and the task of organising the PR would be given to a creative team that can handle the responsibility of the airlines massive reputation. While the Air Malta wants holidays to be the main selling point of their campaign, it’s almost certain that the ambitions of the company are a little more than many might expect. With gorgeous locations, such as Bugibba Hotel and many Gozo resorts, Malta should be an easy sell; judging by the Air Malta timetable however they aren’t going to leave anything to chance.

FutureBrand is an internationally enviable firm with over 25 offices worldwide and although Air Malta have said without a doubt it’s a temporary consultancy, one can’t imagine they could do better or at least try. Currently working through their 160 Air Malta project portfolio, this precedence makes the idea of Air Malta arrivals all that more exciting. The 160 portfolio includes commercial, cargo, finance, corporate restructuring, contracts management, ground handling, human resources, information technology and revenue enhancement; a massive overhaul for Air Malta and time will tell how drastic a change it will make for the airline.

Air Malta enjoying Operating Profit

October 23, 2012

Air Malta

Air Malta is enjoying success and has recorded quite a considerable operating profit. A profit of €0.4 million has been recorded in the first half of the year ending on the 30th of September 2012. The island that is known for its favourable income tax in Malta and its businesses, are operating relatively well even in the crisis Europe is faced with, and this is evident in Air Malta’s performance.

Success for the airline

The operating of Air Malta is reflective of an improvement of a significant €8.4 million over the same period last year, as the airline recorded a €8 million loss. Malta Air, one of the most prominent carriers for people enjoying holidays on the island and all parties involved are very content with the improvement, as this is the first time in four years that the airline has registered an operating profit. The two major elements that facilitated the growth were both cargo and passenger revenues. Both cargo and passenger revenues contributed to an increase of €2 million. Chief Executive of Air Malta, Peter Davies stated, “These figures are the result of the efforts we have put into the restructuring of Air Malta. The concerted effort has reversed the trend of the last years and finally we are reaping financial gains.“

Island of Malta profitable

Last year Air Malta embarked on a total reconstruction of the company from logistics to its marketing and advertising campaign, and it seems to have considerably paid off. It’s evident  that the small island of Malta together with their major airline, Air Malta and law firms Malta are enjoying business success amongst the crisis engulfing Europe.

Malta School of Flying Adds to its Fleet

July 19, 2012

Malta has been in the news a lot lately. It’s been promoted to the top trade destination at a business forum held in Germany. Recently trade relations between Europe and Malta have served to make it one of the top countries for investment. Malta School of Flying has also just received an injection that allowed it to purchase a new plane for its growing fleet.

Malta School of Flying

The new plane acquired by the flying school will afford students the opportunity to get their commercial pilot’s licences. The plane will be used to instrument rating training and aerial work for Malta Wings, which is the sister company to the school of flying. Minister of Small Business, Jason Azzopardi, has confirmed that money was injected to upgrade an aircraft to the current level and a hanger is being built to accommodate the new plane. Assisted by a finance package that is privy to tax in Malta, the money has been a savvy investment into the economic growth of Malta.

Malta School of Flying has been working hard to be in a position to purchase another plane for the school. Their fleet is growing and, by extension, the courses offered are expanding and pilots are becoming more skilled. Experience will grow and before long the locals will be in positions to expand their skill set. Many foreigners with permanent residence in Malta work as part of the local community to build skills and contribute to the investment, but with Malta School of Flying recent acquisition, it won’t be long before foreign pilots are coming to Malta to learn how to fly. After all, Malta is considered a top trade destination.

Giuseppe Cali’s Apse Painting Restoration Highlights Maltese Culture

June 11, 2012

Malta is infamous for its centuries of rich cultural history and one name that lends itself to this is Giuseppe Calì, the famous Maltese classic painter. Every year thousands of people flock to see the Mona Lisa but Malta is in ownership of an artist that rivals the classic Da Vinci works with his own; Giuseppe Calì and his paintings are set to do for Sliema what the Mona Lisa did for the Louvre when it undergoes a restoration in the Stella Maris parish. There are many reasons one might partake in Malta holidays; adrenaline junkies with rock climbing, beach bums on the pearly shores, nighthawks for the nightlife but there is also more than enough to sate the curiosity of the Indiana Jones in all of us.

The painting due for restoration is like a page out of Giuseppe Cali’s diary in that it follows his classical romantic academic style. Entitled ‘The Virgin of Stella Maris with Pope Leo XIII’, it was signed and dated for 1889 which makes it over a century old. Plans for a restoration have been talked about since 2011 but this year ReCoop Ltd is finally taking steps under the directorship of Roderick Abela to follow through. Arguably among his greatest works, although ‘The Death of Gragut’ is considered Giuseppe Cali’s masterpiece, this restoration should be followed closely by art aficionados worldwide.

The biggest winner out of this all is Malta because of the visitors that will no doubt flock to witness the restored classical masterpiece; Topaz Hotel Malta should be booked out before summer is over. The world has millions of art enthusiasts and to see a piece like this restored almost to its original state is almost literally a trip back in time. According to Wikipedia Giuseppe Cali had at least 19 pieces completed before his death all centred on the classic religious symbolism and depictions that were popular around the time, but the reality is that we can never be sure exactly how many pieces exist and that is the thrill of art; will a long-lost piece ever potentially surface? One thing is certain, Giuseppe Cali will be bringing visitors from around the world to his birth nation and considering his influence continues 80 years after his passing; that is his legacy and his genius.
