Air Malta
Air Malta is enjoying success and has recorded quite a considerable operating profit. A profit of €0.4 million has been recorded in the first half of the year ending on the 30th of September 2012. The island that is known for its favourable income tax in Malta and its businesses, are operating relatively well even in the crisis Europe is faced with, and this is evident in Air Malta’s performance.
Success for the airline
The operating of Air Malta is reflective of an improvement of a significant €8.4 million over the same period last year, as the airline recorded a €8 million loss. Malta Air, one of the most prominent carriers for people enjoying holidays on the island and all parties involved are very content with the improvement, as this is the first time in four years that the airline has registered an operating profit. The two major elements that facilitated the growth were both cargo and passenger revenues. Both cargo and passenger revenues contributed to an increase of €2 million. Chief Executive of Air Malta, Peter Davies stated, “These figures are the result of the efforts we have put into the restructuring of Air Malta. The concerted effort has reversed the trend of the last years and finally we are reaping financial gains.“

Malta has been in the news a lot lately. It’s been promoted to the top trade destination at a business forum held in Germany. Recently trade relations between Europe and Malta have served to make it one of the top countries for investment. Malta School of Flying has also just received an injection that allowed it to purchase a new plane for its growing fleet.
Malta School of Flying
The new plane acquired by the flying school will afford students the opportunity to get their commercial pilot’s licences. The plane will be used to instrument rating training and aerial work for Malta Wings, which is the sister company to the school of flying. Minister of Small Business, Jason Azzopardi, has confirmed that money was injected to upgrade an aircraft to the current level and a hanger is being built to accommodate the new plane. Assisted by a finance package that is privy to tax in Malta, the money has been a savvy investment into the economic growth of Malta.
Malta School of Flying has been working hard to be in a position to purchase another plane for the school. Their fleet is growing and, by extension, the courses offered are expanding and pilots are becoming more skilled. Experience will grow and before long the locals will be in positions to expand their skill set. Many foreigners with permanent residence in Malta work as part of the local community to build skills and contribute to the investment, but with Malta School of Flying recent acquisition, it won’t be long before foreign pilots are coming to Malta to learn how to fly. After all, Malta is considered a top trade destination.

A lot of changes seem to be happening to Air Malta; from the recent re-branding drive spearheaded by FutureBrand to a host of new campaigns set to shine a prolific light on the air carrier. Starting at just €39 for Air Malta departures to Catania, a number of destinations including Munich, Rome and Amsterdam have all become that little bit cheaper to experience. While London Gatwick is involved with the Air Malta prices, Heathrow seems to be omitted. However the prices are based on one-way fares, including taxes and charges so the exclusion of some key airports isn’t exactly a train smash.
Reservations for Malta flights are open from the 19th of April until the 30th of June 2012 and the Air Malta check in will be available for those tickets between the 8th of November 2012 and the 28th of February 2013; excluding the period between the 22nd of December 2012 and the 9th of January 2013. Information on Air Malta baggage policies and reservations are available on www.airmalta.com which is the cheaper option since purchasing a ticket on the phone or from a service office will incur an additional €5 service fee; certain conditions may apply. Air Malta holiday destinations include the beautiful island of Gozo and the Westin Dragonara, a jewel of luxury on the island.
With the Air Malta fleet going through a rebranding, now is the time to take advantage of the initiatives on offer; strike while the iron is hot if you will. Air Malta offers incredible value for money with complimentary refreshments, newspapers and an allowance of one 10kg hand luggage free of charge. It’s clear that for the low prices ranging between €39 and €75 that Air Malta is offering a service at almost cost yet includes some pretty decent perks not to mention a gorgeous natural beauty in its namesake.
