David Jones’ excited by remixing a classic

April 19, 2011 Entertainment No Comments

Italian DJ/producer David Jones has achieved a lifetime’s ambition – by remixing one of his all-time favourite house songs.

David has provided a suitably anthemic remix of Billy Newton-Davis’s “Promised Land”, a much-hyped cover version of the 1989 Joe Smooth track of the same name. Smooth’s version of “Promised Land” is widely cited as one of the greatest house records of all time, and still gets major club rotations to this day despite being 22 years old.

Jones’ remix of Newton-Davis’s cover version hit digital download stores this week on Play Records. The Italian producer is clearly pleased with his classic-sounding take, which comes across like a contemporary tribute to Joe Smooth’s original. He enthusiastically posted preview clips on his Facebook fan page earlier today.

Jones recently made a guest appearance on Hatiras’ regular radio show, laying down a live guest mix. Fans can listen again to Jones’ appearance here.
